Not sure if anybody knows or cares but I guess there is a COD4 nations cup currently going on. I'm quite shocked seeing as the pro scene died out 3 or so years ago. Below is a link of phantasy (a very popular pro) streaming is match against Turkey.

lol i wish trogg but i dont have time for that stuff anymore. But above is a new frag video of qlimaxzu (notorious pro scope known for making some ridiculous no scopes). Again shocking to see something new from cod4. Maybe the competitive scene has gained some momentum.

I watch'd the "CoD4 ProMod - Nations Cup 2020 Groups (UK vs Turkey #1)" youtube video. Seemed standard Search & Destroy, Hardcore looks like. No rules about crouching/running. Pretty interesting to watch on youtube, and the skill in action. I guess it's recorded with a video switcher, done by someone not playing the game? With only first-person camera shots, you can gleam what the basic team strategy is, there's a team player (UVA) map, but I can't tell if they're calling plays, or who's listening to who.

I played some S/D, but usually with no vocal communication, which is definitely a different game.

Nations Cup is played in a mod called Promod. Essentially what promod does is make the game more skill based. It gets rid of all weapon attachments, clays, stun grenades and gun sway. There are no kill streaks either. The uav is present at all times. Its somewhere between hardcore and softcore. Harder to kill someone that hardcore but easier to kill someone than softcore. It also gets rid of map debris floating around in the air. The game was recorded in real time live using the same computer the game was being played on. They have video capturing hardware that captures your screen and saves the video without affecting computer performance. That match was played on crash, on defence basic strategy is smg plays in A bomb site, scope plays around sandbags and MG's play middle/B bomb site. Players call out enemy players from there and they move around map accordingly. The cup is almost over and the US has only won 1 match. Maybe if they have another nations cup ill try and get into it with some old teammates.

Promod competition is played as 5v5 S&D. Promod only allows two smg's and one scope per team. you can have as many MGs as you want, but, since its 5v5 and the smgs and scope take up 3 spots that leaves 2 mg positions. Each players has their specialty weapon and you play that weapon for the entire duration of the game, regardless of where you start. Your starting position may dictate where you decide to run and throw your grenade in the beginning of the round, but it doesn't really dictate your weapon. They're not calling a strat at the beginning, everyone kind of plays their own game but knows where they are most needed. It used to be companies would sponsor an event and place money in a purse for the reward in return for advertisement. Not much of that going on in COD4 any more, mainly in CSGO, which has gotten so big its gotten 3 hours of air time on TBS on friday nights.

Phan and the other players on his team were some one of the top pro players back in the day. They absolutely had major tournaments back then where the caster would control the camera and provide commentary. Below is a link to wW vs Anexis with kaos tv casting the match.
